Computers in the Workplace
I will be talking in the sales and support industry. In sales, for example, using a tablet-sized computer can be extremely beneficial for the following reasons:
- Easily monitor inventory and the stock availability of a product.
- Access more detailed information about a product that a customer is interested in.
- Check online websites if a price match is requested.
- Make the purchase right then and there without waiting in line for an old and slow computer to process purchases.
- Look up customer information easily.
- If a customer is bringing in a computer for repair (support), you may have the documents right on the computer, and customers can sign digitally (lots of papers saved).
These were just a few of the benefits of having a computer with one salesperson.
Employees working there will need the training necessary to be computer literate to use the computers provided to them and sell the right computers (if the place sells computers).
In ten years from now, I can see that customer's experience will only be enhanced further. The sales process will only become smoother and faster. Having faster internet will make accessing data faster.
Another thing that I can see happening is robots in many stores. However, robots won't replace humans but instead, offer help and assistance. Maybe a robot will bring products from inventory to customers quickly.
One more thing that I may see happening and becoming more and more common (and it did happen already) are drones to deliver items to customers in a very short period of time.
